Growing older !!

I am 27 years old !! Yes, I am celebrating my 27th birthday on this day. It is a mixed feeling whenever one keeps growing. Good feeling because when you grow old, you take more responsibilities. Not so good a feeling because you are no more a kid & cannot be carefree as you used to be say 5 years back.

Independence Day celebrations at Great Lakes was spearheaded by the Different Strokes Committee. They had skit, dance ,song , Dumb C & a lot of other interesting stuff. Most interesting fact is that most of the students had come in traditional Indian dresses. Girls were in sarees , guys were in Kurtas & Dhotis. The day was fun filled & was indeed a memorable day. Around 300 pictures were taken by students & were posted in the common folder.

EDF Karma is another committee that is doing a great job. They are conducting a Personality Development Training programme for engineering college students in Chennai who wish to secure IT jobs. They had charged each participants Rs500/--for the 5 day course. They have been able to easily enroll 20 students in the first batch. This entrepreneurial initiative , which is a real time business, adds a lot of confidence to members of the Entrepreneurship Development Forum – Karma division. This will come in handy when they start their own enterprises in the future !!

Dr. Bala V Balachnadran’s classes were very good, because he mixes Managerial Accounting with a lot of humour & delivers lectures in a way that reaches us effortlessly. Activity Based Costing was the biggest take away from Man Ac.

Prof Narendar Rao had his characteristic style of starting classes with a motivational message. The 3 major corporate finance decisions like Investment decision, Financing Decisions & Pay Off decisions were dealt very elucidly by him.

Prof Vaidy Jayaraman handled Operational Management classes very well. We had interesting sessions on Supply Chain Management , TQM, Inventory Management , Statistical Tools for Quality control etc.,

Prof Radhakrishnan helped us learn the basic concepts of Micro Economics like Price elasticity, Income & Cross elasticity, Monopoly & game theory etc.

Organisation Behaviour has been taught by Prof Irudhaya Raj. Classes are still on & probably we will have the end term by first week of September. The biggest takeaways have been the ability to understand the human mind so that we can be better managers at work.

Prof Rasheed’s classes on Strategy were really good. He used give us innumerable examples of corporate stories, which helped us in understanding the concepts really well. Michael Porter’s five forces model was the real take away from the strategy classes !!

That is it for now & ll be back with more about Term 3, in the next post !!
